British-born, and now Brooklyn-based, contemporary photographer David Pexton is a master of the lens. His ardent passion for the city that never sleeps is infectious: roaming the metropolis, Pexton is able to capture every tiny detail of the urban space, or express the character of a passer-by in even the smallest gestural expression. With an exceptional eye for colour and composition, Pexton's work - which incorporates 35mm, Medium Format and Instant film - really packs a punch. 'B-Boy' depicts a young man, mid break dance, his entire bodyweight poised, for a moment, on only his finger tips. There is an intensity to the print, both in the look of extreme concentration on the dancer's face and in the captivation of crowd, which Pexton has highlighted by stripping the image of colour. The dynamic instant, captured in a snapshot, retains all of its vitality and immediacy: an utterly compelling image.
