Marilyn - Fear is Stupid By Dan Pearce
Dan Pearce - master of mixed media printing - was recently featured in London's Shortlist magazine as one of the UK's most collectable emerging artists. Such an endorsement needs little elaboration: the works speak for themselves. Bold and confident, his prints take inspiration from celebrity culture, street-style, and pop art, blending elements of fine art to create an iconic aesthetic that carefully blends new, digital media with old-school techniques. 'Marilyn - Fear is Stupid' features a greyscale image of Marilyn Monroe, her iconic face filling the space of the print. Pearce has set the image within an ornate, antique frame and has daubed the whole piece - spilling onto the frame itself - in exquisite splashes of brightly coloured spray paint. The print is both beautiful and conceptually provocative, prompting questions of borders, in both its use of urban style and the merging of frame with image: a truly powerful piece of contemporary art.
