David Studwell is a contemporary artist whose work explores the traditional print-making processes and cultures of the twentieth century. Taking photographic images of some of the century's greatest icons and celebrities - from Al Capone to Marilyn Monroe - Studwell revitalises them with washes of retro colour, for a distinctly Pop-Art feel. 'Steve McQueen I' depicts an image of the 'King of Cool' - but not as you've ever seen him before. A grinning McQueen stands for a Police Department mug shot, which Studwell has washed with tones of grainy, 1950s mustard-yellow.
