The Living: Michonne By Stephen D Bunting
Stephen D. Bunting is a contemporary fine artist, who works predominantly with oil on canvas. His work incorporates figures and faces, employing traditional methods for a unique, contemporary aesthetic. In his paintings, Bunting is alive to the texture of paint, using bold brush strokes or palette knife cuts for a thick, impasto surface. Bunting's portrait series is an attempt to capture the reality and the vitality of the human form, through the sweep of the brush. 'The Living: Michonne' is a beautiful depiction of a dark-skinned woman, gazing away from the viewer, in a soft palette of rich browns against delicate, sage greens. Softening the features, Bunting has breathed life into the figure, who seems to peer with intensity towards an invisible spot. Through the painting, Bunting reminds us of the continuing importance of traditional modes in contemporary culture, and how to bring them into the twenty-first century with deft, artistic prowess.
