Love Yellow By Richard Berner
Richard Berner is a Brighton based illustrator, whose work draws inspiration from a colourful array of cultural iconography: from Star Wars to Disney, Brighton landmarks to Amy Winehouse, Berner creates illustrations bursting with imagination and eccentricity. With a flare for fine art technique, all of Berner's ink drawings are brought to life with colour and texture, often applying paint drips and splatters, before the print-making process. A twist on Robert Indiana's iconic print, Classic Sky Love, Berner's 'Love Yellow' depicts the word 'LOVE' against a baby-pink background, the letters stacked together, as in Indiana's work. Yet, in his characteristically surrealist style, Berner has formed the word from an unholy host of illustrated figures: a frog in a crown; naked angels; sexually perverse couples wearing gimp masks. 'Love Yellow' may be a distortion of romantic ideals, but one thing is certain: we love Berner's print.
